“BALLARD” è il nuovo progetto strumentale del chitarrista-compositore Paolo Ballardini che parte con una doppia uscita: l’1 febbraio il singolo “Changes” (disponibile sulle principali piattaforme) ed il 10 febbraio il videoclip del brano (visibile sul canale YouTube https://www.youtube.com/c/Ballardmusic).
Il primo singolo vede la partecipazione di grandi musicisti come il batterista ungherese Adam Marko (SPECIAL PROVIDENCE) , il bassista Claudio Sannoner (INSTANT KARMA, THE PRICE) , il tastierista Luca Scherani (HOSTSONATEN, LA COSCIENZA DI ZENO) e Simone Carbone (ASYMMETRY OF EGO) che ha curato il mixaggio.
“Changes è il primo brano che ho scritto per il progetto ed è ispirato dal concetto di costante cambiamento insito negli esseri viventi ed in tutto ciò che li circonda, qualcosa cui l’uomo non si può sottrarre e che ci fa vivere una moltitudine di emozioni“.
Chi è BALLARD chitarrista di estrazione rock che in vent’anni di carriera ha sempre cercato di allargare i propri orizzonti musicali. Collabora con lo storico batterista Walter Calloni facendo parte della band fusion “TULIP TREE” mentre in ambito progressive , grazie all’arrangiatore Marco Canepa, dal 2016 è chitarrista di “EXCALIBUR” opera-rock dell’artista bretone Alan Simon; qui il contesto di contaminazione, con radici nel prog-rock più classico, gli ha dato la possibilità di condividere il palco con alcune icone come Martin Barre (JETHRO TULL), Michael Sadler (SAGA), Richard Palmer (KING CRIMSON), John Helliwell (SUPERTRAMP), Moya Brennan(CLANNAD) e molti altri.
Ci dai un’anteprima sul disco che uscirà? Il progetto era nel cassetto da tempo insieme alle bozze di alcuni brani ed a marzo 2020, appena entrati in lockdown, ho subito approfittato per mettermi al lavoro sulle musiche nate da impressioni, suggestioni ed esperienze personali…ho potuto così aprire una finestra sul mio piccolo mondo. Determinante è stato coinvolgere ottimi musicisti, preziosi collaboratori ed amici che in questi mesi hanno creduto nella mia musica e formato un vero e proprio team grazie al quale sto producendo un album di prog strumentale “guitar-oriented” che tenta di volgere lo sguardo alla scena attuale internazionale. Il “prog moderno” credo offra la possibilità di uscire da stilemi e forme pre-costruite e l’ho trovato un terreno fertile per lavorare alle mie composizioni. Un “contenitore perfetto” che mi permette di convogliare le mie idee musicali, il mio personale gusto per l’armonia ed i tempi dispari e mi lascia ampia libertà su arrangiamenti e scelte timbriche. Oltre i classici è stato di grande ispirazione ascoltare giovani artisti come Animals as Leaders, Plini, Intervals, David Maxim Micic.

Who is BALLARD
Rock guitarist and composer that, in twenty years of musical career, has always tried to broaden his musical horizons. He collaborates with drummer Walter Calloni as part of the fusion band “TULIP TREE”; in the progressive area, thanks to the arranger Marco Canepa, from 2016 he’s the guitarist of “EXCALIBUR” the rock-opera of the Breton artist Alan Simon; here the context of contamination, with roots in the classic prog-rock, gave him the opportunity to share the stage with icons such as Martin Barre (JETHRO TULL), Michael Sadler (SAGA), Richard Palmer (KING CRIMSON), John Helliwell (SUPERTRAMP), Moya Brennan (CLANNAD) and many others.
Can you give us a preview of the album?
The project has been in the drawer for a lot of time together with the drafts of some songs and since march 2020, just at the beginning of the lockdown, I immediately took the opportunity to start working on the music, that was born from impressions, suggestions and personal experiences, allowing me to open a window on my little world. It was crucial to involve excellent musicians, precious collaborators and friends who in recent months have believed in my music and formed a real team thanks to which I am producing an instrumental prog album, guitar-oriented, that tries to turn its gaze to the current international scene.
I think the “modern prog” offers the possibility to get out of pre-built styles and forms and I found it fertile ground to work on my compositions. A “perfect container” that allows me to convey my musical ideas, my
personal taste for harmony and odd tempos and leaves me ample freedom in arrangements and timbre choices. Beyond the classics it was also of huge inspiration listening to some young artists such as Animals as Leaders, Plini, David Maxim Micic and many others.
